Preschool students taste-test apples

Preschool students taste-test apples

“¿Cuál manzana te gusta más?” That was the question at the heart of a recent activity in Alex Hernandez’s preschool classroom at Joseph E. Hill Early Childhood Center. Students tasted red, yellow, and green apples, then wrote their names on a sheet of construction paper under their favorite choice.

Sitting at the students’ table, Ms. Hernandez cut the apples into slices and pointed out their stems and seeds. Together, they discussed their favorite fruits and which apples they preferred. One student liked all three so much that she couldn’t choose a favorite!

Ms. Hernandez teaches a One-Way Immersion classroom, a program designed for English learners who have varying proficiency in both Spanish and English with the goal of bilingualism and biliteracy. Six classrooms at Joseph E. Hill Early Childhood Center currently teach with this model. Learn more about multilingual learners in D65
